About BurnSub

BurnSub is a single-purpose web tool that auto-generates subtitles and burns them into video — entirely in the browser. No upload, no watermark, no signup, no Pro tier.

Who built it

BurnSub is built by Atilla Kürük, a solo software builder. It's part of a wider portfolio of tools-that-tell-the-truth including Toololis, 9bench, and seoscore.tools.

Why "burn subs locally"?

Existing subtitle tools — Veed, Kapwing, Clideo — share three frustrating patterns: they upload your video to their servers, they watermark the free output, and they push paid plans before you've even tried the tool. None of that is a technical limitation. It's a business model.

BurnSub takes the opposite approach. The browser is the workspace. Your video stays on your device. The output is clean. There's no Pro tier to upgrade to.

How it makes money

Google AdSense. That's the entire revenue stream. No subscriptions, no Pro features, no upselling. If the ads ever feel intrusive, tell us — we'll fix it.

The tech

• WebCodecs — for hardware-accelerated H.264 / H.265 decoding and encoding.
• WebGPU — for running Whisper-Turbo (OpenAI's speech-to-text model) on your local GPU.
• Astro — the static-site framework that serves these pages.
• Cloudflare Pages + Workers + D1 — for hosting, share-link permalinks, and edge analytics.

Privacy

BurnSub doesn't collect, transmit, or store any video content. The site uses basic anonymized analytics (page views, browser type) and Google AdSense ads. That's it. Read the full privacy policy.
